IT'S TIME TO
FADE INTO HISTORY |
|
One man. It's hard to believe that one man can do so much
damage.
History is filled with examples of this happening in other
countries, sometimes with ramifications that affect the world. But not
here, not in the United States of America. It's not supposed to happen.
It's easy to forget that this country has never agreed on
much of anything. Votes are always split down the middle. There have
always been red states and blue states. We disagree on big versus small
government, foreign policy, health care, climate change and systemic
racism.
One man, and one man only, has taken it to a whole new level.
Imagine if Marco Rubio or John Kasich or Jeb Bush or even
Rand Paul had been the Republican nominee and won the election in 2016.
We'd still disagree, but it would remain on civil grounds. One man has
changed it all.
He fires up his supporters, and revels in antagonizing his
detractors. He has single-handedly torn this country apart.
Lifelong friendships, where friendly political discussions
have gone on for dozens of years, are suddenly threatened. Members of the
same family aren't speaking to one another. All because of one man.
The Capitol was besieged last week in one of the saddest and
unreal spectacles ever witnessed in this country. The FBI warns that all
50 states may see armed protests in their capitals in the next couple of
weeks. All because of one man.
So many millions of people believe the election was rigged
and that this man won "in a landslide." They believe it because
this man says it's so. There is no credible evidence. But they believe,
because they believe in the man.
I can handle many things. I can handle discussing politics
and disagreeing over issues. I respect other people's views. I understand
that people are wired differently, and we have different values.
What I can't handle is ridiculous conspiracy theories. To
suggest that there was a coordinated effort in multiple states to
"rig" an election is absolutely insane. A reader noted that if
that were true, we should recruit those people to coordinate the vaccine
distribution. They're clearly the most efficient people in the country.
Yet this man continues to insist that he is the rightful
winner of the election, and his supporters blindly follow him down the
path to this country's destruction. The only thing we can do is try and
convince more and more people to abandon, at the very least, this bizarre
accusation.
We'll never agree on the issues, and that's just fine. We've
been disagreeing since this country's inception. But we've never disagreed
about our electoral integrity, until now. All because of one man.
For the good of the country, stop this madness. Yes, there
were election improprieties, as there has always been. For example,
Georgia's Republican Secretary of State discovered there were two ballots
illegally cast by dead people. Two, out of 5 million cast.
A fraudulent election? Can you imagine the number of people
involved that would be required to perpetuate a crime of this magnitude?
All organized under a veil of complete secrecy in multiple states, with no
one coming forward to spill the beans. Software engineers, company
executives, poll workers, all risking lengthy federal jail sentences for
vote tampering. Insane.
And, of course, they only rigged the presidential election.
House seats were completely ignored somehow, where Republicans scored
significant upsets. That makes sense.
None of it makes sense. We need to keep pleading with those
who believe in this man to stop believing everything that comes out of his
mouth. Believe in his values and policies, if you must, but don't believe
in his lies.
Let's get back to discussing the issues. Let's get back to
agreeing to disagree. But that's not going to happen if there is
disagreement over who won the election. As can be seen from the events of
last week, there will be no peace until everyone recognizes Joe Biden as
the legitimately elected President of the United States.
One man never will. He will continue to spew his lies, eager
to divide the country and create unrest. He is a man that needs to fade
into history, damage done.
